Neurofeedback questions and answers
Plain answers to common questions about neurofeedback, brain mapping, cost and getting started in Lakewood, Colorado.
Common questions
What is neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is gentle brain training. Small sensors rest on your head and listen to your brain's natural rhythms. You watch a show or listen to music, and the picture or sound changes as your brain settles into steadier patterns. Nothing goes into your brain, and it does not hurt.
Is neurofeedback safe, and does it hurt?
It is painless. The sensors only listen. Most people feel relaxed during a session. Some feel a little tired or a little wired afterward, which usually passes. Tell us how you feel and we will adjust.
How long is a session, and how many will I need?
Sessions are about 30 minutes, and most people train two to three times a week. We check progress about every 10 sessions. Plans are built around 40 sessions, and some people choose to continue beyond that with changes to their program and desired outcomes. Results vary from person to person.
What is a brain map (qEEG)?
A brain map records your brain's natural rhythms with a cap of sensors. The visit can take around an hour, and the reading is done during that time. Intake forms and questionnaires add to the picture. We review the reading afterward and schedule a follow-up consultation within a couple of weeks. A brain map is required to start a plan.
What can neurofeedback help with?
People come to us for focus and attention (ADHD), anxiety and constant worry, trauma and PTSD, poor sleep, and performance goals in sports, school and work. It does not replace medical care, and results are not guaranteed.
Why do you talk about sleep so much?
Sleep is often the most under-rated need. For some people it is the main thing to treat, because better sleep supports focus, mood and stress.
Do you take insurance?
We are private pay and do not bill insurance. Many people can use an HSA or FSA card. Ask us about this in your consultation.
How much does neurofeedback cost?
Cost depends on your plan, such as whether you start with a brain map and how many sessions are planned. We explain it in your free consultation so there are no surprises.
Is there a free consultation?
Yes. You can book a free consultation to talk about your goals, sleep and questions, and to learn the next steps.
