Neurofeedback for anxiety and constant worry
If worry loops all day, your chest feels tight, or you cannot fall asleep because your mind will not shut off, neurofeedback can give your brain practice at slowing down.
What it can look like
You might notice:
- Worry that loops and is hard to turn off
- Racing thoughts at night
- Tight chest, stomach knots or tense muscles
- Panic that seems to come out of nowhere
- Feeling keyed up, jumpy or easily overwhelmed
- Trouble relaxing, even on days off
Not sure it’s you? Many people have a few of these. A free consultation will help sort it out.
How neurofeedback may help
Anxious brains often run fast and stay on guard. In neurofeedback, your brain gets a live signal each time it moves toward a calmer rhythm. With practice, many people say they feel steadier, worry less and recover faster after stress.
Your plan depends on your goals: fewer worry spirals, easier mornings, calmer evenings, or being able to handle a busy day without feeling swamped.
Start with sleep
Sleep is often the most under-rated need, and one of the best places to start. When we work on healthy, steady sleep, other symptoms often ease too. For some people, better sleep ends up being the main treatment.
Anxiety and sleep feed each other. Worry keeps you awake, and a tired brain worries more. That is why sleep is often the most under-rated need for people with anxiety. When we work on appropriate sleep first, anxiety often drops on its own, and for some people better sleep is the main treatment.
How treatment goes, step by step
Every plan is different. Here is what a typical path looks like.
Free consultation
We talk about when anxiety shows up, what helps and what does not, and how you sleep.
Brain map (required to start)
A brain map comes first, and it is required to start a plan. The visit can take around an hour, and the reading is done during that time. We also use intake forms and questionnaires to build a full picture. We review the reading afterward and schedule a follow-up consultation within a couple of weeks of your map.
Sleep and calm first
We start with sleep habits and calming sessions, so your body can feel safer before we aim at bigger goals.
Training sessions
About 30 minutes, two to three times a week. You relax while you watch or listen.
Progress check every 10 sessions
We look at worry, sleep, body tension and daily life, then change the plan if needed.
Add other support if you want it
Some people pair neurofeedback with talk-based support from Knot Counseling or with care from their doctor.
Sessions are about 30 minutes, and plans are built around 40 sessions. Results vary and are not guaranteed.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Neurofeedback is not an emergency service.
Questions about Anxiety
Will it work if I have had anxiety my whole life?
Many people with long-standing anxiety try neurofeedback. Results vary, and we will tell you honestly what we see as we go.
Is it an alternative to medicine?
It is not a replacement for medical care. Keep working with your doctor, and never change a medicine on your own.
How soon might I notice a change?
Some people notice easier sleep or a calmer evening in the first few weeks. Larger changes take longer.
Pair it with talk-based support
Some people like to work on skills and relationships while they train their brain. We recommend Knot Counseling in Lakewood.
